< Back to Scams and Phishing
Today, we have received an interesting phishing email stating there is a pending court issue, which, to the unsuspecting eye, almost looks legit.
The subject message of the email which came to our support inbox was: Court Order Issued – Document Attached for Your Action.
Here is the body of the message as we received it to our support inbox (it converts all HTML email to plain text), and as you can see there is a PDF attached to it.
1. The body of the email is vague; that's a red flag.
2. The sender address looks almost legit, but if you visit kw.com it's a real estate agent, not a lawyer.
3. The attachment name, again very vague; red flag.
The purpose of this email is for you to download and open the PDF file to view what's inside. This is a common phishing tactic.
As you can see, the PDF, when opened, asks us to open a link, which is a 100% red flag, as we would not know what the link opens. You may be opening a drive-by install site or opening your google drive, which would allow the malicious actor access to your drive and possibly all your information.
The link points to a phishing page designed to steal your Google login data from a russian domain, so we can conclude that this is a phishing email designed to steal login details.
